In case you missed it – you can view Gord and Betty’s #RHPFamily Session Part One HERE. //
Up next was the couple-of-the-hour … Gord and Betty …
And if you’ve seen my work before — close up family portraits are my absolute FAVOURITE. I think you can see just why I feel that way …
See? Super special … I would print off the series in black and white in 10×14, and group them together where the whole world would see them …
And then, it was Gord’s turn. It was at this moment, that I realized the significance of this session. Yes, it was to honour a monumental anniversary between Gord and Betty … but after an observation in our conversation, I soon realized that Gord was in a fight for his life. Little did Gord and Betty know, that my own dear uncle is currently warring the same battle, the same cancer, the same diagnosis.
Good asked to take a few photos of his hands, with the idea of placing his family within the images of those hands. Now, that type of photo-editing is not something I am equipped to do – but I took the images so that someone else could certainly help with Gord’s request.
Then – we had a beautiful conversation and some very personal moments were shared between the five of us. It was honestly a beautiful highlight of my career. I was reminded that what I do – is so much more than “taking a photo”. Or trying to make people look their best. No. For me, it’s so much more. I want people’s stories to be told, for our time together to be a highlight for them – for the images I take to be passed down through the generations.
Because the moments we set aside to have our loved ones captured, are actually sacred ones. Not just, “straighten Johnny’s hair” or “ughhhh, I feel so fat today” or “smile Jane, stop being silly, SMILE (grrrrr)”. No. A photo isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being YOU.
So Gord and Betty. What a privilege, what an honour – to have been chosen by your friend to capture these images for you. I know the road you are journeying on is unfair and hard, but know that your love for each other shines in every moment that you’re together. It was easy to capture, because it was everywhere. I pray for peace for your home, for wisdom for the doctors, and ultimately that the Source of Life would give you supernatural strength from this moment onward.
Blessings to you and those who surround you today.
Normally at this point – I advertise an upcoming session, or give out my information for future bookings. But for some reason, it just doesn’t feel right this time. So I’ll close with this instead … it’s a Bible verse //
I pray that the Lord will bless and protect you,
and that he will show you mercy
May the Lord be good to you
and give you peace.”
