Kris and Destinye’s Family/Maternity session was well under way – and the rain/snow was holding off.  You’d never know it was so chilly with the obvious warmth between these two …

I LOVE how they look at each other … they’re super legit.

We were so cold, I suggested some moving around to warm up our toes lol …

And I think it’s ok to have maternity pics that don’t always concentrate on the baby bump.  I love to document what life is like during these seasons … and you can see how much they love each other.  I believe that’s a very important part of the story *smile* …

This one juuuuuust might be my favourite.

And then … the kids were a little more warmed-up from being in the van.  So we decided to try and get just a couple more family pics before calling it a day …

And that was it.  Over 150+ colour and black and white images are done and ready for Kris+Destinye to securely download at their convenience.  Here’s to another successful session, and happy clients!

This family probably looks pretty familiar … I’ve had the privilege of capturing them with my camera on a number of different occasions.  Each pregnancy, each newborn – and even a couple of family sessions thrown in for good measure.

When I think about that – man – it just reminds me of what an honour it is to be a part of documenting these momentous times in people’s lives.

And how great are they??  Little Tatiana was practicing her wink …

… while little Alexander sported the cutest bowtie …

It was SUPER cold – we had been having snow non-stop – so it was important to get these pics done fast.  We opted to do a few family shots so then the kids could sit buckled in safe in the warm truck beside us while we captured a few baby bump pics too …

I LOVE THIS …

That was about the time that little Alexander had had enough of the cold.  So, while Kris attended to the children – Destinye and I worked alone.

That’s the end of Part One … but that just means there’s a Part Two coming, so stay tuned!

Laura and Scott brought a change of clothes, so this was the perfect time to switch things up a bit – wardrobe and location.  Well.  Just across the field lol …

I love this series of images …

When Laura brought out her fantastic plaid scarf — I knew exactly what we had to do.

… so much laughter …

See?

I LOVE this one … I love how nature always has the best backdrop …

Then, I wanted to make sure we got some great close-ups — after all of the distant photos.  I love that style of imagery, but I needed to make sure that the close-ups were covered too …

… and a kiss.

PHEWF!   Soooooo — how great were these two?? Scott, Laura — thank you.  What a privilege to have been chosen by you both for your wedding day.  I cannot WAIT – it’s gonna be super special!

Scott and Laura hired me for their wedding later this spring, and weren’t sure when they wanted to do their engagement session.  But when the snow started coming – they knew that they wanted to take advantage of the crisp backdrop.  I was heading to New Zealand for the Christmas season, so lucky for me – the snow stuck around.  And even better … the day of the shoot?  It wasn’t windy and freakishly cold … it was actually pretty perfect.

Meet Scott + Laura … they’re pretty darn great.

bloglowres (3 of 282) bloglowres (15 of 282)It was nearly impossible to get these two to stop smiling.  Laura is absolutely infectious – all giggles and sparkly eyes.  And Scott — you can see that he is just head over heals for her …

They both attended the same high school, but didn’t start dating until long after.  So kinda “high school sweethearts”, but not quite.  I think it’s pretty cool though … knowing each other for so long – but having a new romance.   Sigh.  I love that.

I always love getting a few shots of the almost-bride-and-groom on their own …

But it’s always so much better when they’re together …

That’s PART ONE.  That means … Part Two is on it’s way.  Stay tuned!!   Please feel free to leave a comment, “like” this on Facebook, maybe leave some love for this couple.  Thanks so much!

What about you?  Maybe you’re thinking, “man – I really need a photographer to capture … ” something? Maybe your fiancé just popped the question – and you have some questions about RHP.  I’d love a chance to meet with you and see if we’re a good fit.  Or maybe you’re looking for the perfect gift for a new mom-to-be with maternity or newborn photos?  Maybe you haven’t had your own family pics done since your 10yr old was a toddler?  Maybe you have an event coming up – a parent’s anniversary, a baby shower, a milestone birthday, out-of-town-family in town?  I would love to hear from you!  Email me at tania@redhandedphotography.com.

In case you missed it – you can view Gord and Betty’s #RHPFamily Session Part One HERE. //

Up next was the couple-of-the-hour … Gord and Betty …

bloglowres-118-of-240 bloglowres-134-of-240 bloglowres-137-of-240

And if you’ve seen my work before — close up family portraits are my absolute FAVOURITE.  I think you can see just why I feel that way …

bloglowres-151-of-240 bloglowres-158-of-240

See?  Super special …  I would print off the series in black and white in 10×14, and group them together where the whole world would see them …

bloglowres-160-of-240 bloglowres-166-of-240

We were nearing the end of the session, but I thought it would be nice to get a few individual portraits as well …

And then, it was Gord’s turn.  It was at this moment, that I realized the significance of this session.  Yes, it was to honour a monumental anniversary between Gord and Betty … but after an observation in our conversation, I soon realized that Gord was in a fight for his life.  Little did Gord and Betty know, that my own dear uncle is currently warring the same battle, the same cancer, the same diagnosis.

Good asked to take a few photos of his hands, with the idea of placing his family within the images of those hands.  Now, that type of photo-editing is not something I am equipped to do – but I took the images so that someone else could certainly help with Gord’s request.

Then – we had a beautiful conversation and some very personal moments were shared between the five of us.  It was honestly a beautiful highlight of my career.  I was reminded that what I do – is so much more than “taking a photo”.   Or trying to make people look their best.  No.  For me, it’s so much more.  I want people’s stories to be told, for our time together to be a highlight for them – for the images I take to be passed down through the generations.

Because the moments we set aside to have our loved ones captured, are actually sacred ones.  Not just, “straighten Johnny’s hair” or “ughhhh, I feel so fat today” or  “smile Jane, stop being silly, SMILE (grrrrr)”.  No.  A photo isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being YOU.

So Gord and Betty.  What a privilege, what an honour – to have been chosen by your friend to capture these images for you.  I know the road you are journeying on is unfair and hard, but know that your love for each other shines in every moment that you’re together.  It was easy to capture, because it was everywhere.   I pray for peace for your home, for wisdom for the doctors, and ultimately that the Source of Life would give you supernatural strength from this moment onward.

Blessings to you and those who surround you today.

Normally at this point – I advertise an upcoming session, or give out my information for future bookings.  But for some reason, it just doesn’t feel right this time.  So I’ll close with this instead … it’s a Bible verse //

I pray that the Lord will bless and protect you,
and that he will show you mercy
    and kindness.
May the Lord be good to you
    and give you peace.”

                                  Numbers 6:24-26

Amen.
